Ok so basically we've all heard about the ozone layer disapearing, right? i hope so because it is a seriouse matter. ozone is a "protective atmospheric layer found in about 25 kilometres altitude that acts as a sunlight filter shielding life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet rays, which can increase the risk of skin cancer and cataracts and harm marine life." And this protective barrier for life is shrinking and altogether disapearing. this year the ozone hole over antarctica is larger both in size and ozone loss than last year. The depletion of ozone is mainly caused by the presence of CFC's (chlorofluorocarbons) and it's products such as chlorine and bromine. CFC's are any of the various halocarbon compounds consisting of carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine. these were once used widely as aerosol propellants and refrigerants but were phased out under the 1987 Montreal Protocol but continue to linger in the atmosphere. A single molecule of chlorine has the potential to break down thousands of molecules of ozone. I fear not much can be done about the thinning ozone layer but continuing to dispose of CFC's responsibly. Geoengineering can possibly repair the ozone hole by replacing the lost O3 molecules in the stratophere with another uv ray absorbing substance not quite sure which one nor how though. all i know is cancer is increasing and so is the "unexplainable" death of sea life.
